Tom Hawk with Dale Chihuly
|
Join us for evening at the Hawk Galleries! Columbus Monthly readers named Hawk Galleries as "the best art gallery in Columbus in 2004."
Tom Hawk, Director of Hawk Galleries, will be discussing the variety of hats he wears in operating a gallery for the past 19 years. From relations with both collectors and artists to national exhibitions and to museum relations, running this very unique small business is Hawk's labor of love.
Additionally Hawk will discuss the excitement of collecting contemporary glass. Hawk feels that collecting studio glass, glass created in independent artists’ studios, is the best value in fine art today. The very same artists, and pieces that collectors are actively acquiring, are not only being exhibited by major museums today, but are being purchased for their permanent collections. This includes some of the leading museums in the world such as the Louvre in Paris. To acquire museum caliber works of art at affordable prices is a special opportunity.
Hawk Galleries is located at 153 East Main Street, Columbus. You can also visit them online at www.hawkgalleries.com.
Dinner will be catered by Lemongrass.

Thomas J. Moyer Chief Justice, Ohio Supreme Court
|
|
Description
|
Thomas J. Moyer has served as Ohio's chief justice since 1987. A native of Sandusky, Justice Moyer received his undergraduate and law degrees from The Ohio State University. Prior to his election as chief justice, he served eight years as judge of the Court of Appeals for Franklin County, four years as executive assistant to the Governor and eight years in private practice.
Earlier this year, the Supreme Court moved to its new offices in the renovated Ohio Departments Building. It is the first time the court has had its own building after 202 years of sharing with other branches of government. Most recently, the court convened in the Rhodes State Office Tower. The state renovated and transformed the 70-year-old Ohio Departments Building into the new home of the Supreme Court of Ohio. White House historian William Seale praises the project, noting that the building's architectural and artistic details make it one-of-a-kind. "No building like it will ever be built again." Constructed between 1931 and 1933, the building is considered a prime example of the Art Deco period.
Following the tour, we will walk over to a reception and dinner at the Capital Club, directly across the street from the State House.
